VR Seminars: Oral Presentation
Presentation
- Duration of the talk is 20 minutes for main seminar and 15 minutes for a proseminar, each plus 5 minutes discussion. If you notice at the end of the talk that there is still some time left, previously prepared additional slides can be helpful.
- If you choose to create your presentation in PowerPoint, we provide a template. However, you can use the tool of your choice. The room is supplied with a projector and a Windows laptop.
- Avoid unnecessary formalism in your talk. In most cases, it is better to discuss the issues with examples.
- It may be reasonable to not discuss your whole paper and only a part instead. Consult your supervisor in this regard.
- The slides should not be too crowded (max. 15 lines of text). The comprehension of the audience can be supported by the sensible and restrained use of colors.
- A picture can say more than a thousand of words. Especially when presenting practical results one should try to provide a picture on every slide.
- Do not use sound when switching the slides or when fading in objects. The presentation laptop usually has only a small speaker so that the desired (questionable) effect can barely reach the audience.
